KOREA DAILY: Capturing the American Market with Asian Fusion Tea

In the very near future, people around the world will carry a cup of tea on their way to work.

Much attention has been given to a Korean American challenging himself to the successful business of Starbucks. His name is Chang-Sun Lee (John-Paul Lee), the CEO of Tavalon, a premium Asian Fusion tea company. Tavalon is bringing a new trend to the American market with its 100 different Asian traditional to fusion style tea products including mojitos and mimosas. In 2006, Lee opened Tavalon Tea Bar on the 14th St. of Manhattan. The responses from consumers who have experienced Tavalon were phenomenal, the products from Tavalon started selling so rapidly with the positive word of mouth, hinting health renewal and restoration with the consumption of Tavalon tea.

By the end of next year, Tavalon is expected to expand into 35 different Bloomingdales locations including as well as opening new stores in LA, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, Las Vegas, Seoul and San Paulo in Brazil. The goal Lee has in mind is to open approximately 500 store branches across the globe, and for this reason, he is looking for potential investors.

Born in America, Lee graduated from James Madison University with degrees in finance and computer science. Upon graduation, Lee worked for Accenture, a management consulting corporation. Lee acquired the business idea of tea while on a business trip in London. As Lee was drinking coffee in a cafe in London, he noticed that many people were enjoying tea instead of coffee. After this realization, he performed a market research and came to the conclusion that tea is the most consumed beverage after water around the world. Grasping this fact, he quit his well-established career at Accenture and challenged himself into the world of tea by creating Tavalon, a pioneer of Asian Fusion, premium tea products. Lee explained, Tea has a great potential for product expansion around the world and fits the current well-being trend of modern consumers. Tavalon has a tea factory in Brooklyn to maintain its quality and at this location, a tea sommelier named Chris Cason who professionally studied tea creates fascinating products with ingredients brought from Korea, Japan, China, India and Africa. Lee further emphasized, As our slogan, the future of tea states, you can predict the future of tea through Tavalon.

Tavalon is expected to introduce smoothies, tea cocktails as well as frozen yogurts by combining tea ingredients.
