John-Paul Lee is bringing sexy back—and in a way you probably have yet to imagine. In 2005, Lee left a successful corporate career and set out to revitalize the image of tea. The result: Tavalon Tea. John-Paul says that in the United States, we have a poor perception of tea. Most American’s think of tea as something their grandmother drinks or only used as a remedy when you are sick. However, it was while he was in London’s Convent Gardens, drinking a cafe latte, when he realized that he was the odd man out. Everyone else around him was drinking tea—not coffee.
Surprisingly, even in a world where Starbucks and hipster coffee shops dot every street corner, tea is the second-most popular beverage in the world. Touting numerous health benefits (anti-aging properties, anti-oxidants and cancer-fighting agents), tea is gaining in popularity among Americans and Tavalon Tea is at the forefront. They are on a mission to not only be the leader in premium teas and accessories, but to also educate its audience by sharing the history, health benefits and the art of its enjoyment.
With the help of his tea sommelier, Chris Cason, John-Paul has created numerous innovative products utilizing tea and its unique properties. This cutting-edge tea company derives inspiration for its blends from music. They classify their teas as mixes, remixes, and uncuts and with over 3,000 varieties of tea, each one is perfect for pairing with a particular music genre.
Don’t like the traditional preparation of hot tea? Make tea your night-cap with one of Tavalon’s cocktail mixes (we think this Jasmine Apple Martini sounds delish!). Don’t want to drink it? Eat it. Tavalon offers several varieties of tea-flavored chocolates and candies. In need of a soothing spa treatment? Tavalon Tea has collaborated with health spas to create tea-infused facial masks and body treatments.
Still not buying it? The International Academy did. This November, Tavalon Tea is hosting a tea cocktail lounge for the nominees at the 2010 International Emmy World Television Festival. Tavalon has also been mentioned in The New York Times, Elle Magazine and Harper’s Bazaar and has graced the lips of Grammy nominees and winners.
Tavalon plans to open up a new tea bars in Manhattan and Seoul in the near future. You can also find Tavalon Teas in many high-end hotels, restaurants and spas, including over twenty Bloomingdale’s locations. All of their premium teas and accessories are available online on their website www.tavalon.com. Healthy is hot and we’re sure Tavalon is indeed the future of tea.
